Music

Nativity-Dothan has a long history of nurturing and supporting music. St. Augustine wrote that “he who sings prays twice”. If this is true, then there’s a great deal of praying at Nativity. Hymns, psalms, canticles, anthems, chants, timpani and strings may be heard on a regular basis. The adult choir helps lead each Sunday as we “sing to the Lord a new song.”

At Nativity, we celebrate our Anglican heritage with music that ranges from Gregorian chant to 21st Century anthems and responses. We believe that music should be inspiring and contemplative, leading us into a closer relationship with God and one another.

In addition to music on Sunday mornings, we offer opportunities to the community to hear great pieces of music as well as the finest musicians to play and sing it. Our Fine Arts Series is presented with no admission to everyone in the community. These presentations are made possible by our friends of the music program. Some of the past concerts include Faure’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. We are now beginning our fifth year with our Fine Arts Series and Nativity is very proud to be the only church in Southeast Alabama that offers this rare opportunity to the community. I hope you will consider attending a Sunday morning service or concert at Nativity. We welcome everyone. All of our choirs are comprised of volunteers, and we welcome new members throughout the year. Please contact me at debdeas@gmail.com or call the church at (334)793-7616 if you have any questions. Come sing with us at Nativity!
