In April 2021, Nativity called the Rev. Randy Sellers to serve as priest-in-charge. On May 11th, 2022, Randy was officially installed as Rector at Nativity.
Before accepting the call to Nativity, Randy served at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in West Point, Miss. Randy is a graduate of the Virginia Theological Seminary; but before attending seminary, Randy and his wife, Darla, called Birmingham, Ala., home.
While at his home church, Randy was very active in the parish, holding a variety of leadership positions. Randy served on the Vestry, was the parish’s chancellor, and served on numerous other committees, including as chairman of the Outreach Allocation Committee. He was involved with multiple outreach ministries, including prison ministry, and the Board of an interfaith network dedicated to assisting temporarily homeless families.
“I feel a strong call to parish ministry to preach and teach the Gospel of Christ,” Randy said. “A major reason I so enjoyed my law practice is that I primarily represented individuals in lawsuits and was able to develop strong ties with my clients. Fostering deep relationships with individuals and families in a parish setting is a great joy to me. “A particular interest is working to develop new ways to ‘do church’ so that we meet people where they are in our rapidly changing culture. I see these ‘new ways’ as additions to, rather than replacements of, the traditional Sunday worship services that I hold dear,” he continued. As well as new ways to ‘do church,’ Randy is passionate about preaching and teaching.“Another passion I have is preaching and teaching,” he said. “In the preparation for preaching, and in the participation in teaching sessions, I always learn far more about God and God’s word than I ever impart.”
